What is a text QR code?

A text QR code is the simplest QR format — it stores raw text directly, with no protocol prefix like http:// or mailto:. When a phone scans it, most camera apps display the decoded text for the user to read or copy. This makes text QRs ideal for short instructions, product information, serial numbers, or any content that shouldn't open an app.

Text QR codes are inherently static

Because the text lives inside the QR pattern itself, text QR codes cannot be dynamic — there's no server to redirect through. Whatever you encode is what every scanner sees, forever. This is how all QR codes should work. Many URL-based QR generators use dynamic redirects to lock you into a subscription; with text QRs there's nothing to charge for.
